love supply.

Rachel Gilbert

i find it fitting to end the wedding season with the opening of our new bridal window run. since my early twenties i have been invited to attend over twenty weddings, been asked to be bridesmaid for seven of them, and created more than thirty odd dresses for these special occasions. the stress and high demand of the wedding industry in my early years repelled me, but now with all this experience under my belt i can now claim the rights to be judgemental towards bridezillas! just joking. but seriously, only now in the final year of my twenties i've only realised how experienced i am at this and that i should probably hone in on this trade. i already have two styling gigs lined up for 2015 which i'm really excited about. now all i have to perfect is my floristry!

the week that was.

this first picture to me is quite inspiring and captures the epitome of what dreams are about and where alot of hard work can get you. the measure of 'success' varies between each individual, but to me it's having the balance of doing your job well, loving it, and being able to celebrate each others accomplishments with uber friends. there is such honour in having a small piece of your work published in the same book as this historic image.

the David Jones 175th Anniversary is open to the public from today, for a month. it's definitely worth a peek also while Vivid is on.

AW 2013 New Season Launch.

[ me at 6am on Castlereagh St, Dion Lee, Bianca Spender, Josh Goot, blueprint sketch ]

so i'm close to reaching three years at good ole David Jones. this window run is extra special because not only is it the darkest i've ever seen these installations, but also, i finally got the opportunity to project manage this launch. if you happen to be passing by make sure to check out the whole run, from the exquisite beauty showcases, through the glamorous main bullnose windows, until you make it round to my girls. the team definitely brought their A-game this new collection. walked past Myer on the way home, you guys may stock Givenchy but i can proudly say... we got this!

what would Jesus want.

it takes a certain kind of crazy to do VM as a job. like anything in fashion, there's a lot more to it than the 'glamour'. more often than not i think of running away from it all and work for another company or chase bigger dreams. but then again i think to myself, how many other jobs out there showcase your work for hundreds of by passers to see, and what other window styling job let's you choose and style a Christmas window full of stock you want for yourself! hah. i guess i could be doing worse things with myself.

but on another note, styling tips if you care to read on. this relates to both merchandising and styling for day to day. i always try to justify my aesthetic choice of black, because people often find it too dark and heavy (especially for summer). black is complementing, simple, classy and chic as fuck. need i say more?

Fleuressence.

the scientific composition of our favourite scents is the concept behind this years David Jones Annual Flower Show at the Elizabeth Street store. tonight's official launch marks the beginning of Spring and it's beautiful blooms. i've had the pleasure of working alongside George the amazing florist and his team at Seed Flora Glebe, for the third year in a row. the drama and stress pays off everytime, and there is alot of that weeks leading up to the opening. so grab a granny and make your way down to the show in the next two weeks. and if you see a trendy little Asian man wearing a pair of black framed glasses frantically running around the ground floor, shake his blistered cut up hands and congratulate him on another year well done!
