runway ready?

Vania Emily thought i should enter a fashion competition, and so i said "yes. yes i should!" i still have to apply to actually get into the event. so fingers crossed with these two looks i whipped up in the past week or so. i had a look at last years contestants, and i'm sure these don't quite fit in, but i tried my hardest to come up with something very quick. hopefully they make it through.
also i had an interview this morning with Nicky Zimmermann for a junior design assistant role. very intimidating meeting with the actual founder of the label. i showed her my "When Two Worlds Collide" assignment, and she thought my work was too dark and sad, so she was quite surprised when i said i like to work with floral prints. "too dark and sad", she might have also used the word moody? why i apply for these chic feminine fashion houses? i do not know. my work is obviously not fitting, but i can do sophisticated, watch me. i have to present a summer collection due at the end of Easter. tune in to see how that goes. so when's the end of Easter again?...

plain jane.

fashion can be so over rated. but if you can rock a tee and a pair of jeans and still look hot, then you're even more fashionable than you think you are! i see it as an understated kind of sexy.

hug a tree.

it seems that i have some kind of fascination with trees. i quite like them. and when i say like - i mean a little more than one should. i seem to have a lot of pictures of them. i even get people to take pictures of me with them. the different textures and colours of the stump and windy, spontaneous lines that the branches create gets really my creative juices flowing. i even used to strip them of their bark because the layers of the colours was so cool to me. i think i'm a tree lover, but not in a hippie greenie kind of way, just aesthetically i suppose.

who's stalking who.

my photography teacher form last year, Haitham Almaan, emailed me last week telling me he had shot Mariana for an editorial. he remembered i wanted to work with her for my photography project last year, but couldn't get in contact with me =( but he did say he would let me know next time so i can tag along, because now he too absolutely loves her like i do! i wish i was as cool as her, if only.
the Style Stalker Winter 2010 collection is up. and i was actually in this same studio it was shot at, when we were prepping for the Minty Meets Munt Autumn 2010. it's also right next door to where i interned for in Chippendale. i remember seeing Mariana Renata and Samantha Harris' calling cards up on their wall and i asked the designer if they were using Mariana, and so it happens that they had just shot her for their upcoming collection. oh and i totally remember those nude shoes she's wearing from the Dion Lee show last year! i had so much trouble strapping them on her, i think i hurt her during the process, but they are hot yes? here are the behind the scenes footage...

oh and the bf said he'd buy me something... is this beautiful 'Conspiracy' dress too much to ask? i'm in love...

this is an art attack.

tomorrow is a good day to go shopping, just like every other day. i will be in Surry Hills stocking up on some materials. i am humbled to have been asked to design and create not one but two special outfits for two great maidens for the month of April. one is a regular customer of mine, who i will be making a graduation dress for. and the other a sister of an old high school friend who is celebrating her 21st with a huge party. i've never made a ball gown before, so i'm a bit scared but also excited to get started on it. the Kirrily Johnston sale in on tomorrow, but i don't know if i'll stick around the city for that. i need to save up for that dream boutique of mine...

dusty pink and shirring.

i took out my needle and thread and made
some kind of sea urchin like dress...
i was asked to make a bridesmaid dress for a wedding at the end
of this month, something like the pink dress i made awhile back.
i think this one turned out heaps nicer! i've never really beaded
before so please don't mind the amateur attempt.
why people always chose pink for the bridal party, i do not know?
get creative people! c'mon, i'm running out of pink thread hehehe.

nude to the bone.

pulling off the nudes is a hard task. i'm itching to make a nude and ink blue dress, the colour scheme has been floating in my head for awhile now *must make dress*! i've been watching Project Runway you see, inspiring they are, and it makes me want to get back into designing.
i enjoy making these storyboards, i wish there was a job where i can do just that all day everyday. i miss assessments, i say that now but probably don't mean it. someone pay me to this for them! =)

frivolously fabulous.

the thought of pink and purple together in a garment is a little too pretty for my likings. but i've found a perfect colour match from those two families. a dusty pink in georgette married with a silk satin in a deep purple is so so nice to my big eyes. french seam this y'all!

wrap me in knits and call me dandy.

waaah those funny lookin' American/Canadian holiday jumpers that i was so desperate to adopt into my wardrobe made its way onto the catwalk via D&G. unfortunately my cousin dearest couldn't find me the right one when she was over there =( i adore the way they incorporated the thick woolen patterns with sheer for this apres ski collection. love love love. autumn is looking so lovely right now.
